At Behavioral Health Services of Virginia, we offer a series of programs designed to aid both children and adults. From our intensive, in-home program for youth to our parenting and caregiver program for adults, our counseling services seek to improve the family structure and help those suffering from mental illness get the treatment they need. We serve families and individuals in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

The intensive, in-home program focuses on children and adolescents between the ages of 5 and 18 who are at risk of out-of-home placement due to behavioral, mental health, or substance abuse problems. It also serves those who are transitioning from out-of-home placement. The program addresses poor problem solving and interpersonal relationship building skills. Services include:

• Mental Health Evaluations
• Parenting Skills
• Behavior Management
• Life/Independent Living Skills
• Crisis Intervention
• Discharge Planning
• Individual & Family Counseling
• Conflict Resolution & Anger Management

*Any child up to the age of 20 who has been identified as having serious behavioral health challenges (i.e. mental health diagnosis, addictive disease) is eligible to receive IIH services.

Mental Health Skills Building Program

Our mental health skills building program serves individuals between the ages of 18 and 64. It provides support training in areas of daily life functioning, medication management, health and safety, and the use of community resources. The program promotes community stability and independence for individuals with significant psychosocial challenges resulting from mental health illness.

Virtual Residential Service

BESA is a home-based, virtual residential service that implements a highly structured, therapeutic environment within the home. It encompasses structured schedule building, parenting, family therapy, and individual therapy in the home, as well as reflective team building. In addition, it includes collaboration with psychiatrists, outpatient therapists, school officials, and other appropriate community services. BESA structures up to 40 hours in the home and serves as a 24/7 on-call crisis response.

Mentoring Program

Our therapeutic mentoring program offers one-on-one counseling for adolescents who show growth in the area of social functioning. The program focuses on building life skills in the following areas:

• Daily Living
• Independent Living
• Problem Solving
• Conflict Resolution
• Social/Interpersonal Interaction

Parenting & Caregiver Program

With our parenting program, parents and caregivers learn to strengthen the caregiver/child relationship and have the opportunity to examine their family values systems and family roles. Families qualifying for our parenting service participate in interactive sessions in which they learn appropriate and clear communication, anger management, and conflict resolution skills. Additionally, caregivers are provided with referral support in connecting to appropriate community resources for job skill training, housing, social services, nutrition, and health care services. Caregivers will learn how to effectively acknowledge and provide support for their child's feelings. Similarly, they will learn how to identify their child's behavioral patterns and how to implement age and developmentally appropriate parenting interventions.
